Why ABA?
Why ABA?
At Sycamore Point Academy, we believe every child deserves the chance to grow, connect, and thrive. We use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help make that possible.
ABA is a science-backed approach to understanding behavior and teaching meaningful skills. It’s not about making kids act a certain way, it’s about helping them learn what works for them in their daily lives.
ABA helps children:
Communicate more effectively
Build independence in daily routines
Navigate social situations
Reduce behaviors that are unsafe or limiting
Learn new skills in ways that stick
Why We Use ABA - Our Way
There’s no denying that ABA has a complicated history. That’s why we do ABA differently.
At Sycamore Point Academy, we practice progressive ABA rooted in compassion, consent, and creativity. Our approach is:
Assent-based – Kids should be willing participants in their own learning. If they say no, we listen.
Individualized – No cookie-cutter plans. Everything is tailored to the learner.
Data-informed, not data-obsessed – We use tools like precision teaching and celeration charts, but we never lose sight of the person behind the progress.
Built on respect – We support communication in all its forms (including AAC) and believe every child deserves to be heard.
Fun and functional – Learning should feel good. We prioritize real-world skills, joyful teaching, and creative reinforcement.
ABA isn’t about changing who your child is, it’s about giving them the tools to express who they are, engage with the world around them, and reach their own goals.
