Falling Into Growth: Our First Pop-Up Art Show

On September 26, we turned a room in the historic WV Building into a pop-up gallery for Falling Into Growth, our first SPA art show and fundraiser.

HACKs Art Collective, a Huntington-based group of local artists and creatives, presented Falling Into Growth and helped turn our fundraiser into a real little pop-up gallery.

There were rainbows, woodland fairies, birds, bugs, butterflies, and colorful artwork everywhere. We had raffle baskets, buttons, an educational zine, and a silent auction full of pieces made by our learners. It was fun, a little weird, and full of personality, which felt exactly right.

Our own RBT, Katie, is part of HACKs, and she put so much time and heart into making the show happen. From long nights getting the gallery ready to helping shape the whole feel of the event, she made sure our learners’ artwork had the kind of space and attention it deserved.

And then people showed up.

People came in to look at the art, stay for a while, place bids, ask questions about SPA, and support what we are building here. We sang karaoke in the down times and by the end of the day, every single art piece had sold.

Every. Single. One.

It meant a lot to see people take time with the artwork and choose pieces to bring home. Our learners made those pieces with their own ideas, their own style, and their own personalities all over them. Seeing them treated like real art, because they are real art, was one of the best parts of the day.

We also got the chance to share a little more about Sycamore Point Academy, what ABA can actually look like, and the kind of place we are working hard to create for kids and families in our community.

Thank you to HACKs, Katie, everyone who donated, everyone who bought a button or raffle ticket, everyone who bid on art, and everyone who came out to support us. All proceeds from the event go directly back to Sycamore Point Academy, and we are so grateful.

We are still kind of shocked that every piece sold. But mostly, we are just really proud of our kids.
